Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 63

America the Great... Global Arms Dealer

EPPThe United States sold a record-breaking $66 billion in arms over 2011, set to break its record again over 2012, controlling roughly 75% of the global trade in arms. Increased arms sales, not only by the U.S., but by all Western states, is part of a strategic focus on building up regional "allies" (i.e., proxy states) to be able to fight our wars for us, and do the dirty work. Thus, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, India, South Korea, and Taiwan are among the major recipients of US and Western arms sales around the world, with military contractors praising increased profits from the two major "growth regions" for arms sales in the world: the Middle East and Pacific East Asia. Welcome to the world of arms dealers and "democracy"-promoters.
