Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 86

Syria and the Geopolitics of Empire

EPPSyria is complex. It's an uprising against a tyrant, a civil war between the regime and violent rebel groups, a regional war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, a wider proxy war between the West (especially the US) and Iran (allied with Russia), it's a counter-revolution to the Arab Spring and the symbol of the challenge of maintaining imperial hegemony in an awakening world. The people of Syria are caught in the middle of the geopolitics of empire, and are suffering as a result. This episode breaks down the geopolitics of empire in the Middle East-Syria.

  1. AGW: “if you are Saudi King your interest is Saudi-Arabia”

-> if you are Bush your interest is US -> Iraq war was in US interest

  2. metrobusman says:

Is Assad a tyrant? What has he done to deserve that epithet?

  3. art.newsome says:

    Great post!

  4. “Qatar has enough natural gas to make every citizen of the country wealthier than any other in the world. Sheikh Tamim bin Khaifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar is a new ambitious determined leader that plans to make Qatar a prominent country in the world. ”

Qatar does not need to wage war upon other countries for “money”. We can exclude Qatar from those are threatened by Assad. Then Russia and China need to be added those who will be involved http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-09-05/china-officially-backs-russia-syria-warns-military-action-would-have-negative-impact
Russia and China and their interests was skipped

  5. Micheal Rivero: “We are down to the wire on whether we will have to suffer a potentially nuclear global war as a sacrifice to the money-junkies and their little game of financial crash leading to world war that they have already played on us twice before.”

Here I miss an analysis of which geo-political players have interest in a nuclear war? I count Kerry – representing the American people – as one of those player, as he has shelter and food for two years, and problably also enough DVDs to keep him entertained during that time.

  6. “U.S. Rep. and Democratic National Committee leader Debbie Wasserman Schultz today issued a statement that called on Congress to approve President Obama’s call for war.

Tonight, she kicked it up a notch in an interview on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, where she invoked the Holocaust. Wasserman Schultz noted that her Weston-to-Miami Beach District has one of the largest Holocaust-survivor populations in the nation.”

Wasserman Schultz is worried about a possible holocaust for Israel in a global war on Syria? No, she is worried there will be peace in Assad-Syria

  7. or ..
She is worried there may not be a holocaust in Syria as planned
